Stand Up Speak Out

    Stand Up Speak Out

Many teenagers go through a lot during their high school experiences. Their experiences perhaps depend on how they focus on school, their behavior towards not only classes but with other students, and how they are treated by other teenagers. Gay students really get affected by the mistreatments that they go through constantly every day, one of the leading causes of teenager’s suicides. This not only happens in West Adams High School, it happens throughout the world. I am for gay rights and believe that they have a right to be treated with respect.
Most parents and teenagers believe that being gay is a sin.  I oppose that because I believe that God loves us all and gay people have the right to be loved. Not only in religion, but also in politics. For instance, The Declaration of Independence. We the people have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. My school West Adams has the majority of the students whom have been raised in Los Angeles. In L.A there is not much hatred toward gay people or students. But even though, students tease gay students because perhaps they think it is funny and cool to do it. Once they see a friend tease a gay person they will join in and do the same. That is how everyone all of a sudden starts to think that it is not a problem to mistreat gay people.

What I Learned From the USC students

The USC students Pauline, Andrea, Zack, and Megan taught Ms. Enszer’s class about the Native American in general. They started from the beginning of the new world through perhaps the American Revolution. Native American had a hidden history in which students did not know about until the USC students came and taught my classmates and me.  I am currently taking APUSH and we much covered all in which they talked about. Therefore I understand the concept of the Native Americans. The students did teach us information that in my APUSH class we did not learn about. Perhaps because it’s not a necessary topic to spend time in learning but, it is information which is interesting to keep in mind. When they teach my classmates and I about a subject I already went over in APUSH class, it feels like a helpful review. I really appreciate then taking time and coming here to teach the students without us paying them.
Our first class was on [10-04-10] a quick introduction in what we knew about the Indians and what we were eager to learn about them.  In my knowing section I wrote “The Spaniards came to the new world by accident. Christopher Columbus wanted to find a shorter route to India because of the trading that they had between themselves. Columbus thought that the world was flat therefore he went west instead of going around Africa in going to India. However, when the Pinta & Nina landed on the Americas Columbus believed that he had encountered Indians that’s why the Native Americans received the name Indians. Even thought the Indians were inferior to the Europeans they had highly agriculture in their culture. Something that still till today we use. The Native American’s population had a rapidly decreasing statistic of deaths and casualties because of the nightmare that the inferior human kind did to them.” The class was also about the difference about being racist and stereotypical when we think about the Native Americans.
They explained the navigation where the Native Americans came from to be settled in the New World. I thought that they came from the south and west, until the students told us that they came from the North West from Alaska. Since the Native Americans were Semi-Sedentary they moved from place to place only taking their most principal object to survive. They did not settle in a specific place because the lack of resources in which they had in their settled place. So therefore once the food and animals were gone they moved on and settled in a different place in where there was more food to survive. We also discussed about the tactics and weapons that they used. I never knew that the arrowhead size was tiny! But Zack explain that they had to be small so that the target in which they were trying to aim at was direct. If the arrowhead was big, it would be more difficult to hunt and bring food home. Therefore, the smaller the object is the more strength it will have. Women were the first homosapiens to live then 40,000 years later men came along. Women did not have offspring because they weren’t from the same species. I learned as well the real definition of species which is Organisms that can interbreed and produce fertile offspring. Therefore since men and women are from the same species, they can have fertile offspring.  The USC student also told us an interesting Native Americans fact in which they had their way in fishing; they did rock walls which in my opinion is a smart way to catch fish.

We were taught of the Native American gender roles. We contrasted the gender roles of today’s U.S.A living to the Native American’s living. Today in America we know that since the people have liberty it is going to be way different then from the Native Americans living. I found out that the Native Americans had a matrilineal living in which the mothers dominate the power of the household. When married the husband has to move in to the mother mother’s house and live there. If they divorced the husband was to be kicked out and did not take anything with him. Children stayed home with the mother. The ultimate authority was giving by the females in this case; men did not have the power in which the men in the United States have. We had an interesting topic in which we learn what a gimblock was. A gimblock is a feminine young boy whom dealed with the pleasures of a man. They parents had the consent of that action and the young boy received gift as a thanking of the Native Americans. In our society that might seem extremely odd and disgusting to us but in their opinion it might seem normal.
Many classes are not this fortunate to receive this type of teaching that the USC students are giving us. Every Monday we learn awesome fact in which are interesting to learn since teenagers would not take time to read books and search in the web interesting facts of the Native Americans.  I appreciate the USC students Pauline, Andrea, Zack, and Megan for coming and making Ms.Enszers  and making it more exciting and interesting!

How It Feels To Be Militaristic Me

I noticed that I had a passion for the military when in joined Army ROTC. It was first when my brother was in that program. He actually recruited me when I had P.E. Now I thank him for doing that because ROTC is awesome. I also payed close & careful attention to my 10th grade history class. I never wanted to leave that history class. Especially when the topic was about WW1 or WW2. I do not get excited over the fact of casualties or the statistics of them, I guess i like the discipline that the military has. The styles of fighting or how the industries advance to make new types of weapons/arteries. The army is really inspiring to me in so many ways. They do so much to our country, perhaps that's why I have a militaristic love. I also like duty & respect they get and as well as the dedication towards their goal. I love the feeling of respect & order. I feel that I have the potential to reach those limits and duty to achieve a goal in the army. i have a mental strong mind but, my physical appearance affects me in many ways. However that can be fixed if i put my mind in to getting fit. This is how it feels to be militaristic me.

What is an American?

Many people migrate from different countries to come to America. Some go through the danger, consequences, and death to have the experience of being an American, why is that? The United States of America has been the country of freedom, liberty, and equality throughout the years of its existence but, t only corresponse to the true, faithful, and real Americans. some may know that it is illegal to come to the United States withoyut having permission. That's one of the reasons that the people from other countries think its not fair that they can not be treated as an American. Although what we know there is a way to come to the United States as a a legal person, by providng what are you going to do to make America a better place to live in. That is one mistake that most of the immigrants do because they are ignorant about the situations of coming to the United States. Most of the immigrants come to the United States to find salvation, religious freedom etc. People from other countries fight to have the same rights as an American because they believe that they have done more or the same work to be treated as an American.
Now days humans that are suppose "Americans" dont act like one. People that truely wish to be an American had done much more than a real "American", they have shown pride. An American is a person whom supports their country also can be considered a person who has serve the country in the military. An American also has to love their fellow citizens as well as they love the country they live in. Most importantly an American has to be originally from the United States, even thought their families are from here they are still not considered an American because they are not from the United States. For instance, my father came around the 1980's illegally. My father came to the United States to have a better future not only for himslef but for his future children. He knew that if he came to the United States his children would definiatley have a better education. As he went to school he learned english meanwhile going to work. He achived to so much in life by jusr not giving up and trying his best and striving on everythng. That led him to his citizenship. Now I look up to him, he became an American by working hard in this country. He understood and respestced the standards of being an American. As you see, you can be considered an American if you meet the standards to it, or work hard to recieve you being an American citizen. In my case an American should be a person who has made this country a better place to live in and as well has worked in the U.S. Injustice has been spreading around the world since years ago, problems have been occuring because of immigrants coming to the United States.
American are not jugde by looking Caucasian, Black, Hispanic or Asian. It matters in what they do, what they are doing to make the United States a better place to live in. An American is a person who strives for more everyday making their lives better and becoming someone in life that would inspire future generations. That's a true American.

Academic Autobiography

When I first began elementary school I was already excited to become someone big in life. I started off really great! I knew how to read and write when I was in 1st grade, something that still troubles some students till today. My teacher loved me, I was their little pumpkin. I actually skipped a grade because I was too advanced from the other kids and did start school late at age. I do not really recall my kinder and 1st grade teacher, I just know that I do have to give them credit for giving me the joy of being an 11th grader today. My parents never missed out on me, never. they brought discipline into the house and helped me on difficult homework that was given to me. With the little that they knew it seemed to me that the always helped me so much. Music started to be my passion when I started middle school. My friend was playing the flute one day and I actually got interested in joining the music class. Therefore, when I started middle school i joined the marching band. So I did. The first instrument I ever played was the Tenor Saxophone. I thought I was a natural. I practiced everyday and practiced like there was no tomorrow. Once I hit 8th grade I wanted to apply to Hamilton High School. My teacher Mr. Harris wanted me to go to that school because he thought that i had a talent and also was really smart to go to that school. I talked to my parents about the school and the opportunities it would give me to reach my goal. At last they decided that the school was too far and they did not have the time to drop and pick me up in school. Surely I knew that I was going to West Adams because it was really close to my house. I honestly did not want to come to this school because it did not really seem fit for me. When I came to W.A.P.H.S I got all honor classes and did not join the band due to the small school schedules. I did awesome in 9th grade that provided me to take better classes in 10th grade. I took A.P Statistics and probability in 10th grade. I thought it was amazing due to a 10th grader taking an advance placement subject. I entered the band giving it a shot, but as a result I did not play the Tenor Saxophone. I gave the french horn a try, wanted a challenge! When I started playing the french horn of course I despised it. the french horn is a challenging instrument but surely I started to love that instrument. although in my opinion nothing could have beaten the tenor saxophone nor the alto saxophone. My goal till today is to become a business owner and a musician.

The Book Of Deanna[:

It all started when i began to play the video game called Guitar Hero. Its was around halloween year 2006. I believe I was in middle school until that time so I was in that era where kids start to know more about themselves and begin to know their likes too. At first I knew that i disliked rap, hiphop, and some spanish music but I didnt find my true intrest in music. It all started that one afternoon my brother came home with a controller shaped as a guitar. I had no idea what in the world was that since i've been so used to playing video games with controllers! :3 So my brother called Orion comes and says "deanna come and check this out!". He quickly plugs in all the cables with a huge excitement. it tyurns out it was a video game called Guitar Hero. Which is a type of game that pretends that you are the one playing the rock song and you have a crowd and etc. The music was incredible! It gave you that energy to jump and run everywhere! :3 At first there were no Metallica songs in that Guitar Hero game but that game did get me into rock and heavy metal. Years later I figured out that I had a passion for the band Metallica. They came up with a Metallica Guitar Hero and that game is super awesome. The best GH video game in my opinion. So thanks to that video game I became a little metalhead :D
